Learn 3 high-ROI AIOps use cases and the readiness gaps that can limit results, from alert noise to cloud spend and incident response, before you invest.

AIOps, or AI in IT Operations, promises early outage detection, smart incident prioritization, and recovered cloud spend. But delivering on that promise depends on the readiness of your environment.

When AIOps underperforms, the problem is less likely to be the platform itself and more likely to be its deployment in an environment that isn't ready for it.

The signs are usually there. You've learned to live with noisy alerts, slow root cause investigations, and outages that catch you off guard.

At S.i. Systems, we see this every day. It’s what we help IT leaders identify and resolve, so their AIOps platforms can deliver the highest ROI with the lowest risk.

### What AIOps actually needs

[Gartner coined the term AIOps](https://www.supertrace.ai/blog/evolution-of-ai-ops) in 2016 to describe the use of AI and machine learning in IT operations, focusing on three capabilities:

**1. Observability:** seeing what's happening
**2. Engagement:** engaging the right people and processes
**3. Action:** acting on what you find

But there’s a precondition for each capability.

Observability works best with clean, connected data. Engagement requires consistent service ownership. And action depends heavily on documented playbooks and governed automation.

No matter how powerful your platform is, without those conditions, AI can't do what you expect it to do.

But when you get those conditions right, the system can:

- Correlate alerts across topology, timing, and log text,
- Surface likely root causes, and
- Trigger remediation before small problems escalate.

### Three high-ROI use cases for AIOps

Those three capabilities translate into three high-ROI use cases when the conditions are right:

1\. Catch outages before they cost you *(observability)*
2\. Stop routing your best engineers to the wrong incidents *(engagement)*
3\. Turn cloud waste into recovered spend *(action)*

Anomaly detection gives your team the window to intervene before your customers notice. According to ITIC, a single hour of downtime [costs more than $300,000](https://itic-corp.com/itic-2024-hourly-cost-of-downtime-report/) for over 90% of mid-size and large enterprises.

The financial cost is only part of the picture. By the time a customer reports an outage, trust is already damaged.

In many environments we’ve worked with, a significant number of daily alerts were false positives that engineers have learned to ignore. Alert correlation groups this volume into a smaller number of incidents that actually matter. This gives your engineers back the focus that alert fatigue steals.

But filtering noise only solves half the problem. Business service mapping shows who's affected and what's actually at stake, so your engineers stop spending time on what's loudest and start focusing on what's most consequential.

[Flexera's 2026 State of the Cloud Report](https://info.flexera.com/CM-REPORT-State-of-the-Cloud) found that [29% of cloud spend is wasted](https://info.flexera.com/CM-REPORT-State-of-the-Cloud#managing-spend-security). This is the first increase in five years. Most of this waste is only discovered during a cost review, after it has already compounded. But with AIOps, you can help identify idle resources and cost anomalies early on.  If you’re assessing where AIOps could deliver more value, we’re always [open to a conversation about your IT landscape](https://share.hsforms.com/1y2TqUTYwT9CidDN_2-GtQgbvr2p) and where to start.

The catch is that something can appear idle yet still be doing important work, so significant recommendations need a human review before anyone acts on them. The real value here is about using your team’s judgment early in the process.

### The AIOps readiness conditions that decide the outcome

Each use case has a condition that determines whether it delivers and how much value it can provide:

- Anomaly detection needs connected and accessible data.
- Alert correlation and prioritization need consistent service names and ownership.
- Cost optimization needs a current business impact map.

You don’t need a full transformation program. Instead, pick the gap that unlocks the most value across several use cases and close it first.

For most organizations we work with, that's service names and ownership.

It's the most tangible gap to close and is the basis for the use cases above. It also lays the groundwork for others you'll likely want to tackle next, such as root cause analysis, automated remediation, and change risk assessment.

Close that foundational gap, prove the business case, and the AIOps platform you invested in starts performing. Moreover, it becomes easier to get stakeholder buy-in for your next initiative.

At S.i. Systems, we've assessed enough environments to know that closing the service names and ownership gap is what separates an AIOps platform that sits idle from one that delivers. And it’s where we usually start working with IT leaders.

We can help you map every service to its actual owner, so you can spot potential gaps in your environment before they impact your operations. From there, we work with your team to close the gap in a matter of weeks, not months. If that timeline is worth exploring, let's talk.
